THE FOUR PARTS OF PRAYER

PRAISE

THANKSGIVING
CONFESSION
INTERCESSION
PRAISE
“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise.”  –Psalm 100:4

Praising God awakens our senses to enter into His life-giving and life-changing presence.

Praising God causes us to focus on who God is rather than what He has done.  He deserves to be praised, and it is a joy to acknowledge His goodness and character. When we begin our prayer time focused on who God is, we realize that He is much bigger than our circumstances.  Faith begins to rise up in us and our prayers are more effective.

We begin our prayer time by praising God for who He is according to what His Word, the Holy Bible, says about Him.   Each week, we will read selected scriptures, and then praise God for His attributes.  Each participant is encouraged to praise God out loud as the Holy Spirit leads.

No prayer requests at this time.

THANKSGIVING
"Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

It is good and right to thank the Lord!  When we posture ourselves with a spirit of Thanksgiving, our heart becomes open to the presence of God.

During our gatherings, we spend focused time in thanksgiving to honor God and give Him glory for what He has done.  Participants are encouraged to thank God specifically for answered prayers that have been prayed in ACTIVATE THE CURE gatherings.  This serves as a testimony of how God is moving through our prayer time together.  What a great encouragement for all to see God working!

No prayer requests at this time.

CONFESSION
“Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  Psalm 51:10

Confessing our sin cleanses us and gives us confidence that nothing in our heart will hinder our prayers.  It also postures us in a place of humility before God and prepares our heart to receive His presence.  When we approach God with a pure heart, we become an empty vessel, ready to be filled up with the Holy Spirit.

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”  Mark 11:25

During our gatherings, we spend a short time in quiet confession.  For those who are used to formal times of confession with a member of clergy, we respect this practice and encourage your participation in our quiet time of confession as well, recognizing that Jesus Himself is our great High Priest and mediator before God (1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 3:1; 4:14; 6:20).

Group leaders are encouraged to spend a brief time in corporate repentance on behalf of the scientific and medical communities for any actions or mindsets that may be a hindrance to research progress.

INTERCESSION:

FOR EACH OTHER
"Then the king said to the man of God, 'Intercede with the LORD your God and pray for me that my hand may be restored.'  So the man of God interceded with the LORD, and the king's hand was restored and became as it was before."  1 Kings 13:6

Jesus is our great intercessor (Hebrews 7:25; 1 Timothy 2:5) and by His example, we are encouraged and empowered to make petitions before the Lord (Mark 14:32-36).  We pray in faith that God has heard our prayers and will answer them (1 John 5:14, 15).

At ACTIVATE THE CURE gatherings, the group leader will pray a scripture over those with cancer who are present or who are represented by someone present, one at a time.  For example, if the scripture is from Jeremiah 17:14, the leader would insert the prayer recipient’s  name as follows: “Heal ______, O LORD, and he/she shall be healed; Save _____, and he/she will be saved, for You are the recipient of _______’s praise.”

After the leader prays the scripture, the recipient is invited to ask God for whatever is on their heart, using short and direct prayers so that others understand them and come into agreement with them.  Once the recipient is finished praying, others are encouraged to pray for that person as the Lord leads them.  The recipient is then welcome to pray additional requests, and others can pray for them again.

While it is not necessary for every person present to repeat or pray into every prayer request, it is important that we all pray for each other so that we feel supported and loved (James 5:16).  There is power in agreement (Matthew 18:19,20).

Sometimes the Holy Spirit leads us to pray a different topic for the recipient; this is awesome, because we are not always aware of our needs, and sometimes other people can cover us in prayer in ways that we cannot cover ourselves!

When the recipient has exhausted all the prayers on their heart, their pause will signal the leader to pray the scripture for the next person.  It is best to avoid talking which interrupts the flow of the Holy Spirit.

If there are many people in the group, pairs will be formed for the intercession segment; in this case, one will pray the scripture for the other, inserting their name accordingly.

FOR LOCAL CANCER RESEARCH EFFORTS
"May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us-- yes, establish the work of our hands."
Psalm 90:17

A unique feature of our ministry is our partnership with scientists, doctors, businesses, and organizations committed to cancer research.  Each week, we will pray during our gatherings for specific researchers or organizations that have been brought to our attention by the Lord.  The group leader will choose a scripture to pray over the person/organization, and then specific prayers will also be lifted.  Those in attendance are encouraged to pray during this segment, as there is power in agreement!

FOR THE MINISTRY OF "ACTIVATE THE CURE"
"Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes."  Psalm 44:5

Each week, we will take a few minutes to pray for the ministry of ACTIVATE THE CURE.   Our vision - that every person diagnosed with cancer receive prayer and be cured - is a big vision and must itself be underpinned by prayer!  We will ask God to grow this ministry by commissioning leaders and opening doors for our gatherings.  As more believers are united in intercession, God's power and effectiveness against the beast of cancer will be released into every corner of His kingdom!

FOR THE END OF CANCER!
"The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds." 2 Corinthians 10:4

Every ACTIVATE THE CURE group in the nation will end their prayer time each week with the same declaration from scripture! Anointing and divine power are released when the body of Christ works in unity for the glory of God!  (Psalm 133; John 17:22, 23; 2 Corinthians 10:4).   Prayer is a weapon of warfare, and declaring the end of cancer is a critical piece to the mission of ACTIVATE THE CURE (Ephesians 6:18-20).

DECLARATION:
Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servants. For your sake, O Lord, look with favor on your desolate sanctuary. Give ear, O God, and hear; open your eyes and see the desolation cancer brings to this nation. We do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great mercy. O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act! For the sake of your glory, God, do not delay!  Demolish the stronghold of cancer in Jesus’ name!  AMEN  ------ From Daniel 9:17-19
