HIS FACE IN MY JOURNEY
One Day at a Time
“This is the day that the Lord hath made. Let us rejoice and be
glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Fourteen days post-diagnosis, I tried to proceed as if life were normal. I took my children to
the store and allowed them each to pick out one small item. My 6-yr old son picked a
protractor and my 8-yr old daughter chose a tube of glow-stick bracelets. The next morning,
my daughter shared one of her bracelets with her brother. He ran to me, complaining that she
would only give him one. I told him to thank her for sharing, and to be happy with the one bracelet
he received rather than focusing on the 15 in the tube that he didn’t have. As I was speaking the
words to him, I knew that it was a message my own heart needed to hear. I was
not to dwell on those things that remained unknown in my situation, but was to take
one day at a time, remembering to rejoice in all of the good news I had received thus
far. My son smiled, thanked his sister and went on his way. And so did I.
